This West Region tour allows you to know the patrimonial “masterpieces” of Portugal. You have as an option to visit Alcobaça or Batalha.
We've decided to include in this tour a visit to Fátima, the religious capital of Portugal, and an essential place of visit for many people. However, if religion doesn't interest you, you can visit both Batalha and Alcobaça instead.
We will start the day with a visit to Óbidos, a magnificent medieval town, which you will explore on foot, with our guide. This town will take you centuries back in time with the old white washed houses completely surrounded by the old castle walls.
After walking in the town centre and maybe climbing up to the ramparts to enjoy the incredible view it will be time to go to Alcobaça (option) to visit the famous12th century monastery. This monastery is not only a beautiful architectural example, but it has also the monuments in memory of King D. Pedro I and D. Inês de Castro (characters of a true romantic Portuguese story from the 14th century, very similar to “Romeu and Juliet”) of magnificent stone handwork.
For the lunch break the fishing village of Nazaré will come as the perfect spot, since the fresh grilled fish and amazing views of the Ocean should be enough to reenergize you.
From Nazaré we will continue to the Monastery of Batalha, (or Alcobaça as an option) the biggest example in Portugal of the late gothic Portuguese style, where we can find a mix of the gothic style with the Manuelino Art – symbol of the Portuguese maritime expansion.
Fátima and its Sanctuary, the site where Our Lady of Fátima appeared in 1917. Since then, millions of pilgrims go there to pay their promises, to pray or just to feel its mystical strength! The Sanctuary Square is so big that it can only be described by numbers: it can receive simultaneously 300.000 visitors and it's twice the size of St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. .
After this last stop of our Tour we will drive back to Lisbon for a relaxed evening.
